1. prize ideas competition "young and local ideas"
agropolis desires to encourage a metropolitan food strategy that both expresses a sustainable food economy ranging from food production to food preparation and is perceived and recognized on a spatial level. the focus lies on promoting private cultivation and the sustainable use of land as a resource. harvesting becomes a part of our daily routine in the city again. as a pilot project, an agricultural park is included in the process of development for the urban development area freiham. it exploits an additional dimension of urban life quality for public and private spaces.
a new and attractive atmosphere is created in freiham. from there, the viktualientram brings food and ideas of urban agriculture to the city center, using the local infrastructure system. furthermore, intra-urban spaces are also made arable using numerous measures and a connection between an increasing number of the inhabitants of munich and methods of food supply is established. finally, agropolis generates discussions about the power of agriculture for clearing areas marked by urban sprawl in the entire metropolitan area in terms of regional networks and spatial relations.
the concept is based on the extensive vision of sustainable urban development. commissioned by the municipality of munich, elements and a concept for temporary use for urban initial spaces were developed. since 2015, open-air supermarkets in freiham, munich and in atzgersdorf, vienna accompany the local process as a concrete implementation with local partners.
