the forest is the new center of the taichung gateway city and a symbol
for actively practiced sustainability. the forest is the identity
forming image for the developing district. it‘s the vibrating green
lung, a water reservoir that creates a pleasant micro climate. it is a sanctuary
for the individual city dwellers and provides many sporting and
recreational activities. the urban forest is an essential factor for the
preservation, enrichment of the urban climate and amidst the pulsating
city life. the forest is romantic middle and heart of the new district.
the area of the former airport , noticed as a social void in the city
so far, will take up the potentials of the location, and transform the
place to a new identity. the new gateway park will be understood as a
face joint in the city, integrating the needs of the bordering
townships. its design aims to combine social sustainability, in terms of
multilayer use of the park, ecological sustainability with an
intelligent soil and water management as a self-evident element of the
park, which leads to an economical sustainability, supported by a
rational maintenance process.
