Lake Garda is internationally known as a wind- and kitesurfing hot-spot. The Northern part of the lake is framed by steep coast cliffs descending vertically in the emerald green waters. As soon as wind conditions are favourable, countless kites and sails additionally shape the character of this stunning landscape.
The proposed concept takes advantage of the favourable wind conditions around Riva del Garda and plays with its characteristic landscape scenery. Instead of a single sculptural rotor we propose a hub of 5 wind trees using complementary energy harvesting systems. Rotating blades, swinging sails or vibrating leafs are used to convert wind energy at different wind speeds. This strategy adds a scientific and pedagogical aspect to the project. It will be possible to observe the effect of weather conditions on the efficiency of each system; the general public will see how different wind speeds require different strategies and techniques - just like in sailing.
The system is clean, silent and innocuous for animals. While the first wind hub consists of 5 wind trees and acts as a local landmark in front of Porto San Nicoló, the system can be scaled indefinitely. In later development stages it can supply other parts of Riva del Garda and neighbour-towns with green energy and contribute to the identity of the whole area.
