objective of the design is the valorization of the airlift square and to merge the place with its surrounding. the urban elements like kaiserkorso and the square between duden- and mvr-street are understood in its heterogeneity together with the bypass road, the memorial and the commemorative courtyard like city puzzle pieces. Beside it’s positive effect of cooling down the city’s climate the places serves as a natural water reservoir throughout the year but especially whilst extreme weather conditions. with the help of the rain water collection system a reservoir under the surface is being filled. During extreme weather conditions the water overflow is led by the natural topography into drain trenches and causes a controlled flood of the green areas. depending on the topographical level, the green areas vary between wetland and dry grassland close to the wooded areas. rar weather conditions will turn into a haptic spectacle of nature. the reflection of the sky and the memorial in the lake emphasizes the symbolic value of the location.
